Winemaker Seminars
Two educational Winemaker Seminars start off the day of the marquee Paso Wine Fest, Saturday, May 21. Winemakers go deep and present wines that are emblematic of the region, with plenty of detail on what makes the soil, climate, and geography so impactful of the wine in glass. One seminar will focus on the icons of Cabernet Sauvignon in Paso Robles and the other will be about organic, biodynamic, and Regenerative Organic Certification vineyards. Wineries participating in these seminars include Austin Hope, Castoro Cellars, DAOU Family Estates, Eberle Winery, Giornata, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, My Favorite Neighbor, Robert Hall Winery, Tablas Creek Vineyard, and Villa Creek Cellars.
Seminar 1: Cab Icons of Paso
Since the 1960s, Paso Robles has been producing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinction. It is a variety that enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights over a long growing season. The very definition of Paso Robles. Fast forward to today, more than half of what is grown in Paso Robles is Cabernet Sauvignon and the Bordeaux varieties. Critical acclaim has found Paso Robles in these six icons of Cabernet Sauvignon, whose wines showcase the superb growing environment for Cab in Paso Robles. This seminar features Austin Hope, DAOU Vineyards & Winery, Eberle Winery, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, and My Favorite Neighbor. Moderated by Amanda Wittstrom Higgins, President & Founder of Dream Big Darling.
Seminar 2: You Are What You Drink
Winemakers collectively agree, that wine begins in the vineyard and a healthy ecosystem produces wines of vibrance and depth. The vineyard and what goes into it is directly translated into the fruit it produces. Sharing that message is a challenge, due to the very definition of a healthy vineyard having multiple iterations. Certified organic, Demeter (biodynamic) certification, and Regenerative Organic Certification are standards in the industry and can be easily confused as to what the benefit of each entails. Savvy marketers have created a narrative that resolves that Clean or Natural wines are the benchmark of quality, yet have no certifiable body of checks and balances. This seminar does away with the greenwashing and defines the benefits of certification in these three progressive farming practices while tasting the results, featuring six brands: Castoro Cellars, Giornata, The MAHA Estate, Robert Hall Winery, and Tablas Creek Vineyard. Moderated by Erin Kirschenmann, Wine Business Monthly.
