Visit Paso with Mike Rawitser
Build your Paso itinerary with the Help of a Local
Why Paso:
Mike Rawitser first discovered his love for the community in Paso Robles when he was driving through town on Labor Day weekend back in 1992. His truck broke down on the way to a horse show. Mike found a local repair shop, and they stayed open until 11pm on a Friday night to help him get back on the road. After that, Mike often came to Paso to attend equestrian events, enjoying the small-town community, and found himself never wanting to leave. Paso Robles Golf Club soon became a reason to make Paso his permanent home as he tackled a decades-long restoration of this historic course.
Favorite Places to Eat:
Often you'll find Mike enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner at Deed's Bar & Grill at the Paso Robles Golf Club - sentimentally named after the nickname his grandkids gave to him. Mike credits the transformation of this restaurant as the reason the Paso Robles Golf Club has become such a destination within the community. "This is like a Cheers Bar... Everybody knows everybody, and if they don't, they will soon," says Mike.
His favorite items on the menu are the shrimp salad and ahi salad. You'll see him drinking water on the course, but he always heads back to Deed's for a margarita afterwards.
When away from the golf club, you can find Mike dining downtown at some of these favorite spots:
Favorite Spots for Local Events:
Mike is a big supporter of the Paso Robles Events Center because of the California Mid-State Fair and other equestrian events held there. You can find him at the fair supporting livestock shows, and competing in equestrian events throughout the year. The Vina Robles Amphitheatre is another favorite, where wine meets intimate live music in an incredible outdoor setting nestled among the vines of Paso's iconic wine country.
Fill Your Days with Golf
Of Mike's favorite things to do around Paso, golfing and riding horses are obviously at the top. He recommends visiting Paso Robles in the fall because the sun is still shining, but the weather cools down a bit. When he golfs, his favorite spot is hole 16 at the Paso Robles Golf Club, one he has dubbed "the risk reward hole." Two holes later, you'll find Mike relaxing on the patio at Deed's with a beer, overlooking this beautiful course.
