Anchored by the darling of California’s craft beer scene – Paso’s very own Firestone Walker Brewing Company – more than a dozen craft breweries call Paso home. What’s more, you and your companion can easily hit several of these marquee breweries via a short stroll through Paso’s picturesque downtown.

Start your tour at Silva Brewing for craft brew with a legacy. Brewer Chuck Silva left the San Diego brew scene (Green Flash) to come back to his roots to open Silva. M.J. Silva, his wife, adds inspiration for the beers that are produced and seasonally released. Be sure to try the Kolsch.

At Toro Creek Brewing Company the motto “not all hops are created equal” is taken seriously. In fact, Toro Creek decided to grow its own hops that tower around 20 feet high. Try their American style amber ale or Belgian style saison.

Recently opened, California Coast Brewing offers some exciting and quaffable beers, like the New England IPA and the Belgian Style Golden Strong. Strong Witbier.

Finish the tour at The Backyard on Thirteenth. With a dizzying number of taps – and a robust comfort-food menu – The Backyard has become fast favorite  for locals. Bonus: The Backyard is dog-friendly.
