As summer reaches peak heat, here's how to stay cool in Paso Robles! While Paso can certainly hit some high temperatures, there are plenty of ways to keeping your cool here during the summer months, and here are some of our favorites.
Paso Robles is a quick and incredibly picturesque drive to the storied coastal Highway 1. Take Route 46, locally simply known as “The Pass,” from Paso Robles towards Cambria and watch the temperature drop dramatically along the way. Sometimes it’s as much as 30 degrees cooler by the coast! Be sure to take your time because you’ll definitely want to pull over and soak in the magnificent views of Morro Bay, perfect for breathtaking photos due to the ever-changing light and pockets of fog. The Pass also brings you through some of the most storied wine country around with turn offs to famous wineries.
Speaking of wine country, don’t fret about wine tasting during summer months! Paso wineries are well equipped with both air conditioning and cool, shaded patios. DAOU Vineyards & Winery has one of the most gorgeous patios anywhere to spend some time sipping a glass of fabulous DAOU rosé. High Camp Wines is another patio favorite, offering a very low-key and intimate vibe among vineyard views. High Camp’s Albariño makes for the perfect summer sipper during your visit! And Calcareous Vineyard also serves equally tasty wines and views from the highest plateau in Paso wine country making it a must during hot summer months. Grab a glass and take in the cooling breezes and stunning views for miles on end. It is quite literally a breath of fresh air!
Keeping it cool with under 21s or non-drinkers? Not a problem! A perennial way to cool down in summer is with ice cream and Paso has incredible artisanal producers. Leo Leo Gelato at Paso Market Walk dishes up decadent gelatos like Honey Lavender or Sea Salt Caramel alongside refreshing fruit-flavored sorbets sure to make summer your new favorite season. Negranti Creamery Scoop Shop, another local favorite, transforms wholesome sheep’s milk into luxurious flavors like Salted Brown Sugar and Fresh Mint Chip. The non-sheep’s milk iterations, like Thai Tea and Strawberry Basil, are just as heavenly, particularly on those hot summer days. Be sure to stock up on some pints to keep the delicious chill alive back home!
And finally, what’s the one foolproof way to cool everyone down on a scorcher? Pool time! Believe it or not, the Pacific Ocean stays pretty cold year-round making pools the preferable option for many and Paso has pool preferences covered. Many hotels and resorts have fantastic pools throughout the Paso area, including La Bellasera Hotel & Suites, River Lodge, Adelaide Inn, Paso Robles Inn, Oxford Suites, Allegretto Vineyard Resort, Courtyard by Marriott and more. Even the RV parks have fantastic pools, like Cava Robles RV Resort! Many vacation rentals also have pools so you can find the best accommodation for whatever you prefer. Grab a book, a cold drink, and lounge poolside to your heart’s content.
Paso Robles provides the best of summer! Soak in the sun knowing that plenty of Paso chill is at-the-ready for perfect vacation vibes.
