As the heritage of zinfandel is once again embraced during Vintage Paso Zinfandel Weekend, held March 20th - 22nd, we wanted to encourage you to dive a little deeper and discover a little more. You can find a multitude of weekend events HERE, but we have also created a list of a few wineries you may have not yet discovered.
Guyomar Wine Cellars
This westside Paso estate, located in the Templeton Gap AVA, boasts dry-farmed zinfandel vines and views that extend for miles. Their vineyard was planted in 1998, but the roots go even deeper as proprietors Ishka and Mareeni Stanislaus enlisted Richard Sauret and Steve Glossner, two pioneers in the art of winegrowing and winemaking in the Paso Robles AVA.
Guyomar traditionally only hosts tastings by appointment, but due to Ishka and Mareeni’s special connection with zinfandel, they will be opening their doors to the public over this festive weekend. What makes this an extra special experience is that their tasting room is non-traditional in that you are invited into their home atop the estate vineyard.
BONUS: The weekend tasting will be paired with South Indian delicacies
Vines on the Marycrest
Rock Hard, Work Hard! That’s the motto of former music industry sound engineer and current owner/winemaker at Vines on the Marycrest, Victor Abascal. Victor and his wife Jennifer escaped Southern California in 2004 and moved to Paso with the dream of opening a winery.
Their twenty-six acre property, in the Adelaida AVA, had some old zinfandel vines planted when they arrived, but Victor himself planted and replanted the rest of the property with zinfandel, tempranillo, and Rhône varieties such as syrah, grenache, mourvedre, and viognier.
Their music infused background still plays into the soul of Vines on the Marycrest - rock, jazz, blues, there's always something playing in the tasting room. Many bands also come from all over California to provide a diverse line-up of live entertainment at the winery. To take advantage of this wine and music experience join them as they host their Spring Concert & Party featuring Bronze Medal Hopefuls.
Sarzotti Vineyard & Winery
From Italy to Rancho Cucamonga to Paso Robles Wine Country, this family owned and operated winery holds four generations of wine making history. With a visit to the estate, you will discover an old world touch paired with approachable wines such as merlot, grenache, and of course zinfandel.
When you visit during Vintage Weekend, be sure to plan a little additional time at the tasting room to sip a glass of wine as the Sarzotti Family will be serving up homemade barbecued Tri Tip Sandwiches and Chili.
BONUS: In true vintage Paso fashion, tastings at Sarzotti Vineyard & Winery are still complimentary!
