Pairing in Paso

By Tina Swithin

Summer is upon us and I am always looking for an excuse to get out of the kitchen and onto the patio for a BBQ with friends and family. It's true that summer recipes are plentiful but you will be hard pressed to find one that compares to the delicious recipes I uncovered at Still Waters Vineyards.

Historic Paso, Destination to the Stars

Paso Robles has long been known for its healing hot springs as well as its agricultural bounty. Located mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Paso Robles has been and still is the perfect half-way layover for weary travelers. The El Paso de Robles Hotel, now known as the Paso Robles Inn, was well known for their onsite natural hot springs and played host to a variety of noteworthy people. Beginning in 1913 the world renown concert pianist, Ignace Paderewski became a frequent guest and eventually a resident of the historic inn.

During the next 40 years, guests of El Paso de Robles Hotel and nearby hotels included President Theodore Roosevelt and Phoebe Apperson Hearst along with actors Douglas Fairbanks, Bob Hope and Clark Gable. It is said that Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio spent their first honeymoon night at a hotel on Spring Street. While many recent articles tout Paso Robles as the new hot spot, it's been a destination to the stars for a nearly a century!
