Sip, Cycle and Savor at the Great Western Bicycle Rally

“For wine lovers and beer tasters. For families and foodies. For those that hammer and those that cruise.”

The Great Western Bicycle Rally, returning to Paso Robles May 22-25, brings hundreds of cyclists to the region every Memorial Day weekend and is still accepting registration. Noted as one of California’s favorite bicycle-friendly cities, Paso Robles is an ideal location for this event. With rolling hills and stunning scenery along with great food, wine and art, there’s something for everyone at this popular annual event.

The Rally kicks off Friday, May 22 with a fun Opening Ceremony held at “The Hub,” at the Paso Robles Event Center, the center of all action during the Rally. In addition to an official launch by the mayor of Paso Robles, delicious food trucks, an artisan market and beer tasting, the evening will include a Cycling Village Expo and the Velo Give, an opportunity to donate your old gear or grab some great bargains on behalf of the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Rally participants and members of the local community are welcome!

The rest of the weekend is filled with activities. On both Saturday and Sunday, participants will have more than 25 scenic rides to choose from in addition to time trials, competitions and special events. Saturday evening participants can enjoy a delicious Wine, Cheese and Pasta Feast along with the popular Track Stand Competition and a presentation from guest speaker Sean Simonson, an inspirational quadriplegic athlete.

While the Rally revolves around Paso’s incredible roads and its reputation as a bike-friendly community, it also celebrates the region’s amazing food, wine and art scenes. During the Great Western Bicycle Rally, riders have the opportunity to partake in a variety of exciting Rally experiences, such as the Garlic Lovers Ride and a rejuvenating deal at River Oaks Hot Springs Spa, just to name a few. After three days of fabulous events, the festival will end on Sunday with a wonderful BBQ and Closing Ceremony. Attendees will have the chance to grill their own food over the Community Coals (sourced locally from the Jardine Nut Ranch) during the giant BBQ or purchase delicious tri-tip cooked by the Atascadero Lions Club. In addition to a great meal, Sunday evening will feature two fascinating guest speakers. John Howard, a record-breaking competitive cyclist and member of the US Cycling Hall Of Fame, will be presenting along with Denise Mueller, a competitive cyclist who is going for the first women’s land speed record in September 2016. Come experience Paso Robles’ warm hospitality for yourself while celebrating the end of another great festival.
