Mark your calendar for The Great Western Bicycle Rally in Paso Robles, May 27-30! Taking place in one of California’s most bicycle-friendly cities, The Great Western Bicycle Rally gathers passionate cycling fans together in the spirit of fun and community, in one gorgeous location. There really is something for everyone at this festive celebration of all things “bike,” including family activities, various rides for all skill levels, a cycling village and artisan marketplace with expo, local food and drink events, music, wine and beer tasting, craft stalls, exhibitions, camping and so much more. Kids and bikes go together like, well, kids and bikes! Enjoy a bunch of fun activities just for kiddos and their families, such as a bike decorating session for kids, the Islabikes Roadeo obstacle course, family ride to Star Farms (where you can sit on a beach, swim, and enjoy a smoothie) or the Family Miles Challenge.

Up for a scheduled ride? Choose from many throughout the weekend, such as group rides with leaders and fully supported rides with support vehicles and/or rest stops, lunch stops, etc. Wine aficionados will love the Wine Tasters Tours, where you’ll discover some local favorite wineries with a stop for lunch. If you’re more of an early bird, the best Bike Zone Cake and Coffee Ride (30 – 40 miles) might be your thing. Hit the rocky road and test yourself on some of Paso’s dirt trails on the Gravel Grinder, finishing up at BarrelHouse Brewery. Other options include the Salsa Ride (a group ride offering mild, medium and hot pace options), the Directors Ride (ride alongside rally directors to give your feedback and ideas for upcoming Rally events) and the star Farms Bike Train Ride.

How about riding when you want, where you want? Paso Robles offers some of the most sensationally beautiful rides in the state, with route options for every skill level through all types of terrain. The Rally offers 25 self-guided scenic routes (from 3 to 100 miles) with maps issued to riders at registration, along with cue sheets and suggested places to stop and enjoy the local flavors and beautiful scenery.

Included in your registration fee is an entry into the Giro Di Paso and the Velo De Femme women’s ride. Both are fully supported, with the Giro Di Paso taking riders over the hills and down to the Pacific Ocean before returning to Paso Robles. The Velo De Femme offers women cyclists a beautiful course along with coaching and riding tips. The ride includes a winery stop and a visit to Templeton Farmers Market on the way back.
