The Mid-State Fair Brings the Best of Paso Robles Wine Country and Summer Fun
Get ready to have some fun at the California Mid-State Fair, taking place at the Paso Robles Event Center, July 19-30! This year’s fair will include dozens of great concerts, cooking demonstrations, competitions, animal shows and exhibits and of course – thrilling carnival rides. But the fun doesn’t stop there.
New Ways to Sip & Savor
The Central Coast Wine Competition returns to the California Mid-State Fair to answer the daring question, “who’s got the best wine on the Central Coast?” The competition features over 600 types of wines from more than 150 wineries, all in competition for the prestigious “Best Of” title.
Ali Carscaden, Master Sommelier and owner of 15 degrees C Wine Shop & Bar, has carefully selected the region’s finest wines from recent entries into the Central Coast Wine Competition to be featured in the Medal Lounge at Mission Square. Open daily, guests are invited gather with friends, vintners and local bands and grab a bottle to savor the bounty of our award-winning wine region.
New This Year: Gold Medal Walk-Around Tasting
On Friday, July 21, experience a walk-around tasting of the gold medal winners of the Central Coast Wine Competition. Selected from a panel of 19 expert judges, guests will have the opportunity to sample from a variety of styles and experience the top quality of these wines crafted from the best producers in our region.
The tasting kicks off at 5pm. At approximately 6:30pm, guests will enjoy a special presentation honoring this year’s top industry awards for winery, winemaker, wine grape grower and wine industry persons of the year. Also the long awaited announcement of Winery of the Year takes place. Held in cooperation with the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance and SLO Vintners, tickets are just $35 in advance (includes fair admission) or $40 onsite. Purchase tickets at www.midstatefair.com.
The Central Coast Wine Competition is just one of the many food and drink activities to look forward to at the fair. In addition to the Central Coast Wine Competition, the California Craft Spirits Competition will return for its second year alongside the returning home brew competition and more. Mid-State Fair visitors can enjoy all their favorite fair foods from corn dogs to slushies, as well as locally grown produce and culinary creations from local food vendors.
This year the fair also has a number of new activities for the little ones. Kids can get up close and personal with baby animals at the fair’s new petting zoo, or take a pony ride around the ring. The Robotics for Kids event will be a fun, hands-on activity where kids can experiment with scribbler robots programmed by local students.
The Wacky & Wild
Prepare to be impressed with the new Wild West Turkey Stampede, where a group of turkeys will show off their racing skills as they chase a remote-controlled truck! If that’s not entertaining enough, there will also be daily contests such as a watermelon eating contest, an apple pie baking contest and a cupcake challenge. And don’t miss the first ever Strongest Man and Woman Competition!
Enjoy the Arts & Entertainment
The fair is excited to welcome street artist and muralist ARCY to showcase live art at this year’s event. ARCY will be working daily to create a spray painted mural right before fair-goers’ eyes.
