Indulge Your Senses this October in Downtown Paso Robles

By Amy Hanson

Lovers of art and our brilliant Paso Robles landscape will soon be in for a treat! October marks the return of impressionistic landscape artist, Erin Hanson, for her anticipated fall exhibition Erin Hanson: Works of Paso Robles. This landmark exhibition captures Paso Robles in breathtaking mosaics of vibrant color and texture, a style reminiscent of the impressionistic movement of turn of the century Paris and Germany.  This month long exhibition will feature thirty Paso-centric original oil paintings viewable at Studios on the Park in Downtown.

Hanson’s brilliant rendition of a Paso rolling hill, kissed by the beaming sun and illuminated in hues of pink, greens and purples is best experienced in person.  Her use of a technique known as “ala prima” or “wet-on-wet” creates a texturized and stimulating motion across the canvas. The colors are unexpected but not unfamiliar, dancing within you eye and striking the imagination.

An Erin Hanson landscape may offer shocks of purple or orange to a puffy cloud, which may otherwise have been subjected to a more muted white or gray. Hanson’s works are anything but muted: they are bold, they are large, and they light up any room with color polarity and a heightened palette.

Five years ago Erin Hanson, an already celebrated landscape artist based out of Los Angeles, discovered the rolling kaleidoscope hills of the Central California Paso region on a romantic getaway with her longtime boyfriend. It was love at first sight. Not long after Hanson embarked on a trip to gather inspiration for an upcoming series of paintings, intent on exploring the full California coast. This trip became a weeklong stay in Paso, waking before dawn each day to absorb Paso’s glistening hills and expansive beauty.

Hanson now returns to Paso Robles regularly to gain inspiration and looks forward to her upcoming return to Studios on the Park to celebrate her newest and boldest works yet.
